High traffic Arts Jobs website

Arts Jobs and News (www.artsjobs.org.uk) is Arts Council England's popular website and mailing list service that promotes jobs, opportunities, and news in the arts community.

All content is generated by its users, which range from internationally-renowned galleries through to individual artists, and Net Efficiency moderates all content to filter out spam and inappropriate posts.

We were asked to overhaul the previous inflexible, proprietary system. The result was a relaunch of the service in 2008 with a simple to use, Arts Council-branded website, designed to scale to bursts of traffic, and a heavyweight email system, capable of sending out several hundred thousand HTML emails per week. All of this developed in the TYPO3 Open Source CMS.

We continue to tweak and develop the site with features such as personalisation. Users can personalise emails by art form, region and salary. For example, you can choose to receive a daily or weekly email of theatre jobs that pay over £20,000 in London.

To further promote the service, we also built a Facebook application that enables users to display a dynamically filtered list of jobs or news on their Facebook profiles. The site continues to be very popular on social media, with over 13,000 Twitter followers for the jobs site alone.
